Basilica of Our Lady of Charity

The image of the Virgin of Charity arrives to Huamantla in the seventeenth century. It is somewhat curious as how the settlers called it the Charity, the story states that the Franciscan friars used to give away food, so they began to be customary for people to say we are going to charity in Huamantla and this is how Lady of the Assumption became Virgin of Charity.

The feast is celebrated on August 15th, with the tradition known as "The night that nobody sleeps" is the development of fine and ephemeral carpets and rugs of colored sawdust, which the population covers the main streets of Huamantla .

The procession starts around midnight to the passage of the queen and the faithful that accompany the virgin, fireworks explode with thunder that leaves you wanting more, songs and prayers full of faith and hope make this night a celebration of harmony.

It is tradition that the Virgin debuts new dress and carriage for the procession, there have been many dresses that have used and today they can be admired in the Museum dedicated to the collection of this interesting exhibition.
